You can reach Gialtra in various ways, either by car or by public transport. The main routes are in good condition and pass through the national road. By car, Gialtra is approximately 3 hours from Athens and 4 hours from Thessaloniki.
By public transport
If you prefer public transportation, the bus is the simplest option, especially if you want to minimize changes in transportation. Here are the details:
- Starting points: Starting points: Buses depart from either Athens or Thessaloniki. You will first need to arrive at the appropriate bus station (by city bus, metro or taxi) and from there begin your journey to Gialtra.
- Arrival in Edipsos: The bus will drop you off in Edipsos. From there, you can continue to Gialtra with one of the following options:
- Taxi: Available from the port of Edipsos, where there is a stop. The cost ranges from 20-25 euros and you can take it at any time.
- City bus: Also from the port, it mainly serves students after school. It operates only on weekdays, at approximately 2:00 pm, with a ticket cost of 1-2 euros. For information, contact the ticket office, which is also at the port.
By car
If you are traveling by car, there are different routes depending on your starting point:
- From north of Evia (e.g. Thessaloniki): A convenient option is to go through Glyfa.
- In Glyfa there is a ferry boat that takes you and your car to Agiokampos. From there, Gialtra is about 30 minutes away.
- Glyfa’s ferry boat schedules can be found on their website. It is recommended to confirm by phone, as the website may not be up to date.

- Directions from Thessaloniki can be found here.
- From central Greece or further south (e.g. Athens): You can pass through Arkitsa.
- In Arkitsa there is a ferry boat that takes you and your car to Edipsos. From Edipsos, Gialtra is 20 minutes away.
